Heather Delzell

My work aims to make fresh use of many art historical references. I draw on these in all my work, but notably in the recurrent theme of the “Eternal Feminine.” In them, my depictions of the natural world, of flora and fauna, are linked to what I believe are psychologically sensitive female portraits, and offer a modern take on the ancient association of the woman with nature. Since I strive for a rich and deep palette, I welcome the frequent description of my work as “painterly.” The decorative motifs employed tend to unify what is too often seen as divided. My love of the medium and the ongoing discovery of its possibilities and challenges allow me to present an insight into the underlying unity of existence. I hope that the everyday is revealed to be the door for the transcendent, the material world - the vehicle for the intangible.
